The goal at Brenmar is to breed the best dogs possible with information acquired through the years, with a commitment to each litter and our future Tervuren owners. Foremost in the breeding program is the consideration of health of the puppies. I feel that breeders should spay and neuter any dog that seizures, has hip displasia, eye defects, and abnormal thyroid problems as thyroid can lead to a host of other problems. The breeding stock here has none of the above, and I would never knowingly breed to a dog that is unhealthy or has produced unhealthy puppies. The structure of the dogs is right up there with health, as the breed is a working breed and should be able to herd or guard stock for long periods of time. We all hear much about correct type. Type is a combination of a beautiful silhouette, good movement, correct head and eye shape, color, and a dog as close to the standard as possible. Last but not least, above everything else, a Tervuren must have excellent temperament. In Europe a champion has to pass a character test. In the U.S. they do not have to pass a character test to receive a championship. If they did, there would be many dogs not receiving the coveted S.R. which in France is Sujet Recommende (recommended for breeding). |

It is important for me as a breeder to choose the correct temperament for the new owners, and the temperament that will fit into the owner's lifestyle whether that is a pet home where the puppy will play ball in the park, go hiking, camping, boating, join in on the neighborhood soccer game or any other activity; or whether the puppy will need to be geared for the conformation ring and the rings of competition, ie. agility, obedience, and flyball or the working field of tracking search and rescue, herding, sledding etc. Our goal is to produce correct temperaments, structure, and healthy puppies. All breeding stock have passed OFA or Penn Hip exams and are CERFED. We have planned breedings that will line on our good American dogs as well as introducing nice type from Belgium and France. Our delight comes from happy puppy owners who can have their best friends for years! The Litters at Pineknoll are whelped in my home, hand raised with socialization by children and adults. They are fed a natural diet as well as kibble, taken to the vet, introduced to toys which will stimulate the appetite for obedience, temperament tested, handled daily several times a day, taken for car rides, introduced to crates and leads, and loved with all of my heart. I stand by every puppy, and am available to their new partners in their new homes until God decides to take them. There are questionaires for perspective buyers, contracts and guarantees. Puppies bring new friends into my life, and I enjoy each person who gives these little tervlets a good home. If you are interested in a Belgian Tervuren and wish to speak about the possibility of entering into a partnership between you, myself and a puppy, feel free to phone 413-772-1913 or drop by for a visit, get to know my dogs, let us get to know each other. |
